Finding a Brand Voice Customers Actually Remember
Read ten local business websites and you’ll read the same one ten times: “quality service,” “customer satisfaction,” “family owned and operated.” None of it is false; none of it is memorable. Brand voice is how you sound distinctly like yourself in every sentence you publish-and it’s free differentiation almost nobody claims.
Your Voice Already Exists
It’s how you explain things to a customer across the counter. The analogies you reach for, the things you refuse to sugarcoat, the jokes you make. The job isn’t inventing a voice-it’s capturing the one that already closes deals in person and getting it onto the page.
Capture It in an Afternoon
- Record yourself explaining your three most common services to a friend. Transcribe it. Highlight the phrases that sound like you.
- Write five things you believe about your industry that competitors won’t say out loud.
- Define three traits with guardrails: “direct, but never rude,” “funny, but never about the customer,” “plainspoken-jargon gets translated.”

Apply It Everywhere
Website copy, sure-but voice does its heaviest lifting in the small places: appointment reminders, review responses, the after-hours text. “We’ll see you Tuesday at 2-coffee’s on us” beats “Your appointment is confirmed” a thousand times a year.
The Test
Cover the logo. Could a regular customer tell the writing is yours? If any competitor could have published the same paragraph, keep sharpening. Voice compounds like the rest of brand-see why brand is the asset that compounds-and if you want help finding yours, reach out.
